Goodland Power Plant celebrates 75 years!

     The City of Goodland celebrated 75 years in their current Power Plant yesterday. It was a great day. The Power Plant employees opened the Power Plant up to the community and gave people tours so they could see the engines that power our City. The plant was built in 1937 and started generating electricity in 1938. Some of the original engines are still in operation. All of Goodland's engines are Fairbanks-Morse engines. Representatives from Fairbanks-Morse came down to be at the reception and they provided the refreshments. Power Plant Superintendent Rod Blake said that he and his crew enjoys working for the people in the City and providing this valuable service to them. Congratulations Rod! Good Job - Here's to another 75 years!

Crop Production Services has Ribbon Cutting

     On July 18th Crop Production Services in Goodland had a Ribbon cutting for the expansion of their building. This was a 19,000 Sq Ft expansion that includes new service tanks for their trucks and a new service bay so that their employees can stay out of the elements while they are loading and working on the trucks. CPS was also chosen as a regional award winner by the Kansas Department of Commerce to celebrate Business Appreciation Month.

The Van Gogh get's a face lift

      Cameron Cross is back in town! He is here to repaint, repair and relaunch the Van Gogh painting here in Goodland. It has been very exciting. Last week they brought a crane in and lifted it off of the easel it had been on for the last 12 years. Bryant Nemechek spent the morning welding and coordinating the painting to come down. It was great to watch. When the painting finally came off the easel there was a huge "boom sound" that scared everyone there. Bryant had it all planned though and there were no problems lowering it to the ground. Now that it is on the ground Cameron Cross spends his morning's and evening's restoring the painting and preparing it to go up by the end of the month.

The Girl Scouts turn 100!!!!

     Since both of my girls are in the Girl Scouts I have been made aware of how great the Girl Scouts are. The are just now finishing the cookie season and they are ready for a great spring and summer. Both of our girls have learned to be more confident and better prepared to address the world around them. In Goodland we have fantastic leaders that really make a difference in the girls lives. McDonald's Grand Reopening in Goodland.

     Vivian is showing off the Balloon she got this morning at McDonald's. We were there to celebrate the Grand Reopening of the McDonald's after they remolded their restaurant. The Goodland Ambassadors came out and cut a ribbon for them and congratulated them on how nice the restaurant looks. We are so glad to have you in our community.

Goodland - Kansas begins here!

     When you are east from Colorado into Kansas one of the first thins you come to is the State of Kansas Visitor Center. It is a great place to grab a free cup of Coffee and get information on the diffrent attractions in the State of Kansas. The Center is run by Mona Carver who tells me that they get around 150,000 visitors a year at their center. They can help you find a path and explore our great State!

     Today we had 5 Goodland Wrestlers leave for the State Tournament. The Wrestlers are: Austin Avelar, John Peden, Tyler Gastineau, Laine Herl, and Riley Oharah. We are so proud of these guys as we are all of the kids at Goodland High School. We wish you the best of luck and know you will represent us well!
